The demand for STEM education, particularly for young Afghan women, is stronger than ever.
On November 18, the AUAF Mathematics department hosted its 5th bi-annual Female Mathematics Day. The event featured several brilliant AUAF female student speakers, who presented several topics on the importance of Mathematics in both education and our daily lives. With topics ranging from the role of mental mathematics to the importance of Boolean algebra, the event proved to be successful in bringing together AUAF’s bright and ever-expanding STEM community.
The University’s continued commitment to STEM education and the determined desire for education in Afghanistan is further exemplified in its forthcoming programs. AUAF continues to host its Science, Technology, & Mathematics (STEM) online boot camp training program for female high school students. Through this two-week program, students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Information Technology (IT), English skills, and develop a stronger base of knowledge as they prepare for higher education or the workplace.
Set to commence early next year, the Boot Camp has over 53 female high school students registered, all of whom are tapping in remotely from all over Afghanistan, despite the trauma that many students might face day-to-day.
