Gharasany IbnulAmeen will be recognized as the 2019 Woman of Distinction by NGO Committee on the Status of Women – New York (NGO/CSW-NY) this spring at the NGO/CSW-NY Forum Consultation Day March 10th and 12th. As an American University of Afghanistan alumni, she is a strong believer in the value of an education. For years, she has been an influential leader in education, empowering women and raising awareness for ethnic harmony. As the organizer of the Afghan Girls Leadership Program, she has created successful leadership workshops held in multiple cities across the country helping Afghan girls seek their potential. Gharasany is also the co-founder of the Global Youth Development Initiative, in which professionals across the world serve as mentors to Afghan students. In addition, Gharasany was the first to establish a Model UN in Afghanistan. She is a recipient of the 2017 Emerging Young Leader Award from the U.S. Department of State and has been honored by Rula Ghani, the First Lady of Afghanistan, with the Responsible Citizen Award. She is the youngest to receive the 2019 Woman of Distinction and continues to work hard to ensure that young girls across the country of Afghanistan receive their right to an education.
